Leukemia

Leukemia by Jessica Whiteside

symptoms:
  • swollen lymph nodes in neck or armpit
  • fevers or night sweats
  • pain in the bones or joints
  • frequent infections
  • feeling weak or tired
  • bleeding and bruising easily
  • swelling or discomfort in the abdomen
  • weight loss for no apparent reason
affected systems:
  • Leukemia is a cancer that starts in the tissue that forms blood. Unlike normal blood cells, leukemia cells don't die when they should. This causes the balance between normal white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets to be thrown off. With an abundance of leukemia cells, it makes it hard for normal blood cells to do their job correctly.

This disrupts the normal functioning of the body by causing a blood cell imbalance. The leukemia cells crowd the normal blood cells and they can't do their jobs.

Nice colors btw.

Leukemia upsets homeostasis in the body because it makes the cardiovascular system work extra hard. Also, because this system provides essentials throughout the body, many of the other systems are thrown off. For example, the muscular system gets thrown off because it lacks the efficient amounts of oxygen that the blood usually supplies it.

Leukemia cells mostly takes over the body flooding places where blood cells would usually be. By doing this this causes the person to be very sick and extremely tired just because of the imperfect balance of cells in the body.

Leukemia disrupts the body's ability to maintain homeostasis because the extra leukemia cells crowd the normal blood cells and upset the cell balance. This effects the Immune system's ability to help fight infection.

Also, leukemia is always diagnosed through medical tests, because its symptoms can be associated with other diseases.
